The health benefits of yoga are well known. In addition to the physical nature such as reducing chronic pain or make you sleep better, regular yoga practice can also improve mood and reduce stress.
A group of researchers in a report in the journal Medical Hypotheses, said managed to find a link between yoga with stress. This is apparently related to the influence of yoga on the brain.
"Yoga does reduce the stress of yoga movements turned out to be correct imbalances in the nervous system," says lead researcher Dr.Chris Streeter, professor of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine.
He and his team found that when a person experiences stress, an imbalance in the brain area. Balance disorders including low activity in the area of the brain called gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA). GABA inactivity is also found in patients with epilepsy, chronic pain, depression and anxiety.
"Yoga is known to increase GABA activity that decreases the symptoms of stress," he said.
Although this research is still early, but the researchers hope someday yoga can be integrated with medical treatment. Several studies have also linked the benefits of yoga for mental health.
Another study published earlier this year suggests yoga can be practiced as a preventive way to teach school children to control anger.
